The hardware that generates, shapes, carries and receives electromagnetic signals, from microwave frequencies through to optical.
Sensing performance is usually set by this hardware rather than by the processing that follows. Reference stability limits the smallest resolvable velocity change, bandwidth limits range resolution, and the mass, power and cost of an aperture decide whether an instrument can be carried at all. An improvement at this level improves every measurement made with the instrument, and increases how much of the world it can observe.
What works becomes a building block for the Weibel Group. If it can support a business of its own, it becomes a new company in Weibel Ventures. We are interested in claims of improvement to oscillator noise, reliability or cost, from any field: tell us.
Selected directions
Low-noise frequency references. Their stability limits how small a velocity change a radar can resolve.
Optical components that carry and convert radio signals, giving wider bandwidth and low-loss distribution across an aperture.
Engineered surfaces that steer a beam electronically, at lower weight, power and cost than a conventional array.
High quality-factor resonators and precision phase control, developed for particle accelerators and applicable to radar.
